MANTA HISTORY, build kits, build diagrams, advertisments etc.
Surely someone out there has some infromation???.
I have tried but obviously don't have the contacts.
It seems a shame, as the Manta really is a part of Australian culture.
I know its not up there like the Meyer Manx, but some ozzy gave it go, and really should be recorded in history of Australian culture. |

I really don't know that much about them apart from they were made to be a sports car not an off roader.
Once you cut the rear guards and nose, they make a good off road buggy.
I have heard a story that there is a guy in SA thats making them again and had something to do with the first ones.
I have seen 3 types of Manta's, the one with a super bug window in short and long wheel base and a short manta without a moulded window at all
At first I thought someone had cut the window off but I have seen a couple of them now and it was dune in the mould.
I have also been told that someone in Perth is building them now...
Not sure if this is a business and they plan on selling them but there is a mould been made of a short manta in Perth
I'm shocked that NoDunes or XTC haven't answered you these would be the guys that would know a bit about them.
Good luck with this and if you do find more info Please post it here as it would be good info to see.

I think i have tried to give you some history before.
I will place what i have back on here after Nambucca weekend.
There was a guy that was writting a book on the history of Australian buggies. But tossed in the towel after no one wanting to give out any information.
Seems that most manufacturers want to keep the info to them selves.
Graham Lees (former owner of Brookvale Spares) is the only person i know of with sales info on the original Manta buggies. But how you would get in contact with him now. I have no idea |

Well it seems that also EVERYONE ELSE wants to keep the MANTA BEACH BUGGY HISTORY information to them selves, and not share with fellow beach buggy enthusiasts.
What a shame. |

Maybe there is no one on the forum that has the info, it might be a matter of doing a bit of research yourself and then putting the info up once your get some, buggy history is not a easy as researching history on mainstream vehicles as so many of them were built by small workshops in the days prior to computers so any documents if you find any might be laying around in some old file somewhere.
Once its on the net its easy, anyone can access it and be an expert but it getting the info in the first place that is the hard bit. Don't think its because no one wants to give you the info but more likely that no one has any. One thing about buggy people Ive found is that if they have some info most of them are more than happy to pass it around and help you out where they can. |

The Australian buggy scene has never been like that of the US or UK.
meaning there is very little info regarding kits in illustration form in this country.
J&S was the largest producer of buggy kits in this country. But illustrated information regarding them is next to nothing apart from a few trial brochures that they printed and decided not to go through with sending them out.
To my knowledge only Supasports, Astrum and J&S had any sort of build diagrams. Most other companies just used the information that was out there regarding the build up of the Meyers Manx.
Anyone who currently holds that sort of info has paid deeply to receive the info or have done the hard yards them selves to find it. |

Ok . The mantas history is a bit shady . Talk to Ian Poytner of Marlin Buggies in SA , He is now doing a Manta copy called the Marlin
As far as what I know they originated in Wa Google Manta roadster
you will have to go through a few pages of crap but there is info out there
The widsreen is a carman gia ..
Moose was right on the mark, They where marketed as a Manta Roadster
no a Beach buggy
There was a Manta Sale Brochure on ebay , Sold pretty cheap
Write in to vw australia they should help you
As far as getting info off anyone on here . . . . Its not a Manx
so who cares .
Mantas are not on the favorite list for most buggy lovers
Have fun looking its all out there . Its half the fun finding it |

I'm Sorry there is not much info around for Manta buggies... but it looks like not many people know anything about them.
So Help us out, You own one ... tell us what you know. If its not history at least tell us what you think of it as a buggy. Pro's and Con's lets as a group make some history for others.
I'm sure about one thing that forums offer, that if you post something thats not right someone will find it and correct you......lol
I would start with finding photo's of them and posting them up here |
